What a weekend!

We suddenly have two big kids sharing our house with us. How did that happen? This morning, I was hanging out with them on the backyard while the two of them sat at the little picnic table and shared some oranges. They just looked so big and old.

We stayed home for Memorial Day weekend to focus on getting Cole potty trained because his new school, which starts July 1, requires it. Mostly that consists of hanging out in the backyard half naked (Cole, not us). He has done incredibly well - a few accidents but then he’ll announce that he has to go peepee and runs up onto the hill in the backyard. Sweet! He even went in the bathroom at a restaurant though he didn’t go in the “hot little house” (the portapotty at the park). He also pulled down his pants at our local sandwich place and announced “I’m wearing underwear!”

Our little girl has also made huge strides (so to speak) this week. She started off standing unassisted, then on Wednesday she took a couple of steps. Each day she has become more confident, taking a few steps at a time. She’s fairly stable - we suspect she’ll really be walking within a couple of weeks. Today she has been so excited about being able to stand up without pulling up on anything.

Ally’s been playing more games and talking more. If you ask her to play peekaboo, she understands and covers her face. She plays the “ah” game when you wipe her face, which she learned from Cole. She is good at fishing with the magnetic fishing puzzle. Imitation is her way of life right now. She also expresses herself VERY strongly when she wants something. She’s climbing all over the place (with one good bonk on the deck - doh). Her words right now: mama, dada, Cole (sounds like doh unfortunately), doggie, kitty cat, cracker, banana, ball, belly, hat, hi, bye bye, uh oh (she always says uh oh baaa, we’re not sure why).

Cole’s story today: Once upon a time there was a big, big doggie made out of brick. The wolf came and blew the doggie down. The end.

Cole sang songs to the snail and the bug outside today: “Snaily, snaily snail snail, snaily snaily snail” and “Buggy buggy bug bug, buggy buggy bug” and “John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt”
