Somebody turn on the A/C
It’s dang hot around here. The past few days have been record-setting temperatures which basically means that we’ve been driven indoors where we huddle in the dark under the ceiling fan and pray for night to fall. At least that’s what Jen and I do. Cole runs around like a the tasmanian devil leaving a wake of destruction in his path on his continous quest for the next cool looking rock, seed, straw or piece of paper. You’d think that we never get the kid any good toys but he’s only truly happy when he’s clutching a green straw from Starbuck’s in one hand and a fistful of rocks in the other.
Cole continues to be incredibly endearing (to us, anyway). His new thing is that he likes to wash his hands. He runs into the bathroom, stands up on a milk crate and washes his hands given the slightest opportunity. Hand washing involves several rounds of soaping up, about 45 gallons of water and a lot of very serious sounding “washa hands!” comments. The other day Cole decides that he wants to wash his hands and Jen points out to him that his hands are actually clean (for once) so they don’t need washing. So he goes and wipes them in the dirt to make them dirty and asks again ![]()
Ally is getting far more exciting these days. She’s smiling and very burbling and starting to take some interest in Cole’s crazy antics. Twice in this past week she slept for an 8 hour stretch at night so it’s possible that we may be returning to the land of the living sometime soon!
Jen and I are managing to get out on the town every once in a while now. Elisa (Jen’s “little sister” from Big Brothers/Big Sisters) is still babysitting Cole once a week which gives us a chance to get out and have a little date time for ourselves. That’s especially nice since at the moment we have about half an hour to ourselves at the end of the day after the kids have gone to bed and before Jen goes to bed.
On Wednesday morning, we fly out to the East Coast to see everybody at the Delaware! We’re very excited! I can’t wait to see all the kids playing with each other .. it’s going to be terrific.
