The week in review

It’s Sunday evening and we’re feeding Cole and getting him ready for bed. Sadly, this is the last day of my work-from-home stint so it’s back off to work on Monday. Jen will be taking care of two kids and a dog all by herself for a couple of days until Liz (grandmom) arrives in town on Wednesday evening.

In the meantime, it’s been a pretty fun week. Ally is beginning to open her eyes and look around at the world, which is pretty cool. She’s sleeping as well as can be expected at this point which means she wakes up about every 2-3 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night. I’m still on night-nanny duty from 9 PM till 3 AM which means I get a lot of time to myself, except that I’m usually too tired to be really effective. Still it’s nice to get the evenings.

I have to say, we’ve got great friends. They’ve been stopping by regularly to visit and bring dinner. Man it is great to have people preparing dinner because otherwise we would be having pizza every night. Cole has really enjoyed all the attention he’s been getting from our friends which has helped to balance out his baby jealousy.

On Thursday we all rallied and drove in to Bharat’s work where we had a play date with Nicole and Stephanie Gray so that Jamie and I could show off our kids. Cole had a blast. He found a tennis ball and a foosball and ran around our cube environment playing with them. The VA cube farm is (unsurprisingly) a dangerous place for a little kid to be playing, but Cole was very good. We almost got out of there unscathed, except that just moments before we were going to leave, Cole stepped on Jamie’s power strip and shut down all his computers. Doh!

On Friday I headed in to work for the afternoon. I use the term “work” loosely because what I really did was have lunch with the team, play some foosball, go to one meeting, then go out and see the new X-Men movie. I love my job. The movie was excellent, by the way. Better graphics than the first one and a solid story line. I felt they could have chopped about 15 minutes out of it, but I was never bored.

Today, Ally is 17 days old. Here’s a picture of Cole when he was 11 days old vs. a picture of Ally at 16 days. What do you think? They look pretty similar but Cole had a lot! more hair!
